ZINVO's Favorite Cars: Audi R8 V10 Plus

In our newest chapter of the ZINVO Favorite Cars series, we take a spin in the sporty Audi R8 V10 Plus. Aside from its beautiful body, roaring engine, and immaculate interior, we also love that this particular yellow and black Audi R8 matches our Blade Nemesis perfectly.

Audi History

The visionary founder of Audi, August Horch, first established Horch & Cie in 1899. Like most entrepreneurs, Horch had an unfortunate break with his board early on, and was forced to start a new company to be more in line with his vision.

Since “Horch” meant “listen” in German, and “Horch” was already trademarked, they brilliantly took the Latin translation of “listen” and came up with the name "Audi." Today, the current Audi logo is represented by four rings. These rings are a symbol of the merger in 1932 between four German car manufacturers: Audi, DKW, Horch, and Wanderer.

Like many great car companies today, Audi is part of the behemoth VW Group. Audi AG presently guides the company with the bold statement “Progress through Technology", which is the perfect description of a colorful history and a continuous contribution to the automotive industry.

Audi R8 V10 Plus

When the Audi R8 was revealed to the world in 2006, it was truly revolutionary. Though, once the V10 version was launched in 2008, the world witnessed a phenomenal German supercar that rivals cars like Porsche and Lamborghini. In 2017, we get to experience the second generation R8 V10 Plus (first released in 2015 in the US), so buckle up, strap on your ZINVO Blade Phantom, and get ready for a crazy ride.

The Audi R8 V10 Plus (R8) has a 5.2-liter dual injection V10 engine that delves out 610 horsepower @8,250 RPM, and 413 lb-ft of torque. The engine is not supercharged nor is it dueled with an electric engine to assist with the takeoff. This engine is naturally aspirated creating all that extreme power, and that is because the R8 engine is the same engine found in the Lamborghini Huracan. As expected, the R8 does 0-60 Mph in 3.2 seconds, a quarter mile in 10.6 seconds clocked at an amazing 130 Mph and a top speed of 205 Mph.

The pure massive power created by the R8’s V10 engine transmits to the tires through a 7-speed twin clutch automatic transmission. Gone are the days of manual transmission, but if the goal is to have the fastest most responsive experience, then an automatic twin (dual) clutch transmission is the choice to achieve that. Audi's famous Quattro (4WD) system is also featured in the R8. However, it features a new system which adjusts where the power is needed to each wheel electronically.

The R8’s exterior has not changed much since its first release. We have all come accustomed to its smooth curves and distinct lines, and the 2017 model will not disappoint. The entire exterior of the R8 is made of carbon fiber, giving it the low curb weight of 3,500 lbs., thus increasing its performance.

Built for everyday driving, the Audi R8 V10 Plus will beat almost any car out there. It will blow anyone away, even the ones experienced with supercars and hypercars. Boasting a ride experience of a Lamborghini Huracan, the 2017 Audi R8 V10 Plus priced at $170,000 is a complete steal.
