ZINVO's Favorite Cars: Bentley Continental GT

Welcome to our newest chapter of ZINVO Favorite Cars where we go for a ride with our ZINVO Blade in the ultra-luxurious Bentley Continental GT.

Founded by W.O Bentley in 1919, Bentley has been known to combine luxury and racing performance in their vehicles. A combination that seemed impossible to many, Bentley successfully perfected it over the years. Not long ago, sports cars were just raw racing machines, but today they are all adding elements of luxury. However, few come close to achieving that as well as Bentley does.

Since 2003, Bentley Motors Limited, which is a subsidiary of the VW group, has been building super luxury vehicles in Crewe, England entirely by hand. This talented and innovative team from Crewe has brought us a new era of technological road-beauties and the Bentley Continental GT is one of the fastest coupes ever made by the car manufacturer.

Exterior and Engine

The Bentley Continental GT's exterior design—in particular, the hood—is quite aggressive. However, contrasting with that is the smooth touch afforded by the sides draping beautifully over the large-base wheels. The trunk is thoughtfully designed to fit a set of golf clubs—a detail that is rarely seen in cars over 600 horsepower.

Under the hood, the Bentley GT has a 6.0 liter, twin-turbo charged W12 engine, pulling in almost 600 horsepower @6000 RPM and 531 lb-ft torque. Although weighing in at an incredibly heavy curb weight of 5115 lb, it astonishingly goes 0-60 mph in 4.3 seconds with a maximum speed of 198 mph. That is a tremendous achievement for any car, let alone a luxury coupe. It seems Bentley is building a new category of car that is yet to be categorized.

Inside, the Bentley Continental GT provides supreme comfort, along with multiple airbags, large plush leather seats, hand-crafted polished veneer and aluminum. All this comes together to provide a feeling of extraordinary luxury, as seen pictured here with the ZINVO Blade Gunmetal, like only a Bentley can.

It goes without saying that the ride is super-quiet and ultra-smooth. The air-spring suspension and continuous dampening control absorb all the bumps to lend a feeling of gliding above the road, thus making long journeys as comfortable as flying in first class.

The Bentley GT’s exclusive driving experience is administered through an 8-speed close-ratio automatic transmission with shifters placed on the side of the steering wheel. This unique ride would not be complete without AWD providing that extra grip in any road circumstance and under any weather. Furthermore, the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) ensures the Continental GT is behaving as it should while learning and conforming to any driving style.

To further enhance the experience, Bentley’s in-house designed infotainment system is packed with all sorts of connectivity options and custom built speakers by Naim Audio. Naim is known for its all-encompassing pure musical sound, putting the final touches on an environment built for absolute pleasure.

The origins behind the Bentley logo was influenced by W.O. Bentley's passion for building jet engines during WWI. The founder's fondness for airplanes still resonates in today's Bentley, but certainly more towards the first class cabin of an Airbus A380 rather than a vintage aircraft. While an Airbus A380 will set you back $400 million, the Continental GT will cost you a mere $238,000 for virtually the same experience.
